Wednesday, October 8 (commencing at 5:30 p.m.) The Alliance Française of Northwestern Connecticut is presenting a talk by Dr. John Merriman at the Emergency Services Building, 25 Quassuk Road, Woodbury.  Quassuk Road is located in the northern section of the village on Main Street, the last avenue just past the San Remo restaurant and the Garden Center.  The title of Dr. Merriman's talk is "The Suburbs of Paris" ("Au marges de la ville"), and will be delivered in French.  The images, language and realities of contemporary suburban Paris life will be examined.  Dr. Merriman is the Charles Seymour Professor of History at Yale University and lives part-time in the Ardeche region of France. He received his B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. in history from the University of Michigan.  Dr. Merriman has taught at Yale University since 1983 and has had guest speaker engagements throughout the United States, Great Britain, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Poland and France.  He has authored and edited numerous articles and volumes.  Prior to Dr. Merriman's talk, there will be a social get-together at 5:00 p.m.  Reservations may be made by contacting 203-263-4096 or afnwct@snet.net
