Our film will be “La Règle du Jeu” (“The Rules of the Game”) from 1939. It was directed by Jean Renoir, son of the legendary painter, and is universally praised as one of the greatest films of all time. It is a drama set in the decadent and callous French society entre deux guerres, immediately before the start of World War II. The war broke out within months after the film’s release. For those in the AFNWCT Groupe de Lecture, this is the same decadent world described in the first chapters of the group’s recently finished book, Pierre Assouline’s Lutetia.

A $5 donation will be accepted.
