DESCRIPTION:The Alliance Francaise of NW CT in collaboration with The Brookfield Library has scheduled a monthly showing of a French film with English sub-titles.  Listening to the French (while watching the subtitles) is another great way to practice and train your ear to the French language. \nOn Sunday\, January 10\, 2016 at 1:00-4:00 pm the film will be Jean de Florette  a 1986 French period film directed by Claude Berri\, based on a novel by Marcel Pagnol. The film takes place in rural Provence\, where two local farmers scheme to trick a newcomer out of his newly inherited property. The film starred three of France’s most prominent actors – Gérard Dépardieu\, Daniel Auteuil\, who won a BAFTA award for his performance and Yves Montand\, in one of the last roles before his death. \nPlease register for this event throught the Brookfield library website.

All short films\, ranging from 5 to 30 minutes\, have the theme of “Youth in Europe” and are shown in their original version with English subtitles. \nThis grouping of films will feature some very sweet stories – two very amusing shorts about an upcoming soccer star and a mischievous daughter\, we’re back in the pool again for another swimming story\, a couple of thought-provoking animated shorts – it’s another great program you won’t want to miss!… \nIn addition to one short film by a director from France (Bourgogne) there will be films ranging from 6 to 28 minutes from Switzerland (German Region)\, Germany (Berlin)\, Lithuania\, Ireland\, Netherlands (Utrecht)\, Croatia and Latvia (Estonia). \nAll films are shown in their original language with English subtitles.
