SUMMARY:Groupe de Lecture
DESCRIPTION:Meeting on the first Thursday of each month\, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm\, this group has a lot of fun sipping wine\, tasting cheese and crackers and taking turns reading out loud in French. Enjoy hearing and sharing the richness of the French language. \nThe title of the current selection is “La Tournée D’Automne”. \nLa Tournée D’Automne is a love story about an older man who runs a bookmobile serving the smaller villages of Quebec in the hauntingly beautiful landscape of the north shore of the St. Lawrence River. One day\, a small group of entertainers from France decide to travel much the same route and the man meets Marie\, a woman who captivates him from the moment he sets eyes on her and who seems equally attracted to him. \n  \nThe tone of the story is quiet and gentle and those new to Poulin are likely to find La Tournée D’Automne a charming and captivating tale. \n  \nIf you have any questions\, please let Amanda know at lecture@afnwct.org. \nAFNWCT Members attend for free; A suggested donation of $5 is requested from others. \nQuestions or comments? Contact Amanda: lecture@afnwct.org \n

SUMMARY:Café Conversations
DESCRIPTION:Café Conversation is a great way to practice\, improve and/or help you feel more comfortable speaking French with friendly francophones and francophiles who enjoy speaking French in an informal setting.  The group meets two Saturdays a month from 10:30 to 12:30 (be sure to check this calendar often). Have a cup of coffee and meet/greet fellow members for the first half hour or so with some small talk – en français (It’s all about practicing!) and then prepare to tackle the subject of the day. \nAn article in French (often with a side-by-side English translation) is read out loud en français by the participants to practice proper pronounciation and to check understanding of the French vocabulary and grammar. The article will then be used to spark the conversation. \nAll levels of French are welcome. AFNWCT members attend free and a $5 suggested donation is kindly requested from all others. \nThose with a question\, or if you wish to propose a certain topic or lead one of the discussions should contact Brigitte: cafe@afnwct.org \nThis group meets at the AF Center located at 1 Pomperaug Office Park\, Suite 301 in Southbury. See map below.

SUMMARY:Summering in The Loire Valley: A Presentation by Jini Vail
DESCRIPTION:On Sunday\, November 12th @ 2pm\, Jini Jones Vail\, author of “Rochambeau: Washington’s Ideal Lieutenant”\, will be doing a presentation in English on her new book (still in edit) “Summering in the Loire Valley”.  Jini invites you for a private tour of the Chateau du Marechal de Rochambeau\, with an unexpected slant.  Rusty Dyer\, filmmaker\, provides a glimpse of a noble family home\, while Jini focuses on the provenance and ensuing 234 year junket of the twin gouaches. The mysterious trail of the pair of paintings begins in the 1780’s\, with the final battle of the American Revolution. \nJini will be available afterwards to answer questions. You find out more about Jini at her website: Jinivail.com\, and more about Rusty at dididyer.com.  Donations will be appreciated.  Because there is limited seating\, we are requesting you RSVP by calling 203-707-0710 or e-mail to afnwct@afnwct.org by November 5th.  This event will be held at the AF Center located at 1 Pomperaug Office Park\, Suite 301\, Southbury.
