DESCRIPTION:The Litchfield area French Discussion group will meet on Thursday\, December 17 starting at 6:00 pm at its new location\, a local business called Harvest Moon Timber Frame\, LLC located at 198 East Street in Morris (see Google Map below.)  East Street is in fact route 109. There’s a big sign out front. There’s both a red barn and a house – the group will be meeting in the house. \nLed by a French native\, previous discussion subjects covered Les Santons de Provence\, Roquefort cheese\, and Le Beaujolais Nouveau. \nWhether you are just learning French or are an advanced speaker\, you are welcome to join. SUMMARY:French Movie - Brookfield Library 1:00pm
DESCRIPTION:The Alliance Francaise of NW CT in collaboration with The Brookfield Library has scheduled a monthly showing of a French film with English sub-titles.  Listening to the French (while watching the subtitles) is another great way to practice and train your ear to the French language. \nOn Sunday\, December 13\, 2015 at 1:00-4:00 pm the film will be Jean de Florette  a 1986 French period film directed by Claude Berri\, based on a novel by Marcel Pagnol. The film takes place in rural Provence\, where two local farmers scheme to trick a newcomer out of his newly inherited property. The film starred three of France’s most prominent actors – Gérard Dépardieu\, Daniel Auteuil\, who won a BAFTA award for his performance and Yves Montand\, in one of the last roles before his death. \nPlease register for this event throught the Brookfield library website.

DESCRIPTION:The Alliance Francaise of NW CT\, in collaboration with the Southbury Film Commission\, continues its Short Film Festival with Program 7 of Eurochannel’s 6th Short Film Tour at the AF Center\, Southbury on Friday\, October 23 starting at 7:00 pm. All short films\, ranging from 5 to 30 minutes\, have the theme of “Youth in Europe” and are shown in their original version with English subtitles. \nThis grouping of films will feature some very sweet stories – two very amusing shorts about an upcoming soccer star and a mischievous daughter\, we’re back in the pool again for another swimming story\, a couple of thought-provoking animated shorts – it’s another great program you won’t want to miss!… \nIn addition to one short film by a director from France (Bourgogne) there will be films ranging from 6 to 28 minutes from Switzerland (German Region)\, Germany (Berlin)\, Lithuania\, Ireland\, Netherlands (Utrecht)\, Croatia and Latvia (Estonia). \nAll films are shown in their original language with English subtitles. We’ll show two films\, followed by brief discussions\, led by our own cinema aficionada\, Carol Donahue\, before moving on to the next ones. DESCRIPTION:Starting Thursday\, October 22\, the Alliance Francaise in collaboration with The Brookfield Library will hold a monthly daytime French Discussion Group titled “Parlons Francais!”  at the Brookfield Public Library from 2:00-3:30 pm. The daytime meetings will be in the downstairs community room and will be led by Colin Harrison. \nColin learned to speak French while working at CERN in Geneva many years ago.  He has been a Brookfield resident since 1982\, but has maintained French and German fluency through his work and friends in Europe. \nWhether you are just learning French or are an advanced speaker\, you are welcome to join. You will have an opportunity to learn\, practice\, and improve your French language skills at these informal meetings. \nPlease register for these free events through the Brookfield Library website.

DESCRIPTION:THIS CLASS IS CANCELLED \nReservations are required – Hurry! Space is limited to 10 participants. Cost is $40.00 per person (only $30 for AFNWCT Members). Checks made payable to AFNWCT should be sent to AFNWCT – 1 Pomperaug Office Park\, Suite 301\, Southbury\, CT 06488 by October 15. \nParticipants who wish to drink wine with their meal should bring their own. Fluency in French is not required however vocabulary related to French culinary art will be introduced; participants should bring a pen and paper for notes.
