New Ciné-club Concept

For the fall season we will show an original French film and the next month the American remake.

We begin with Plein Soleil directed by René Clément, 1960, starring Alain Delon. It was loosely based on the 1955 American novel, The Talented Mr. Ripley, by Patricia Highsmith. The American film version, written and directed by Anthony Minghella, 1990, stars Matt Damon and Jude Law.

Les Diaboliques, co-written and directed by Henri-Georges Clouzot,1955, starring Simone Signoret. The American version, Diabolique, was directed by Jeremiah S. Chechik, 1996, starring Sharon Stone.

New Reading Group – Livres d’histoire

La Carte Postale was described in Le Figaro littéraire as “un livre d’histoire, riche en questionnements, qui se lit comme un grand roman.” In many ways, this true story is every bit as gripping as a good policier. John Lamb’s deep understanding of 20th century European history, in general, and the Shoah/Holocaust, in particular, will facilitate our discussion of the serious and timely issues raised by this extraordinary work.

Cocktail de Rentrée

Join us for our annual celebration of the start of the fall season. Mark your agendas for Saturday evening, September 28, for another “grande bouffe” accompanied by wonderful libations and lots of good company!
