Cinema Et Conversation

May 18, 2018 @ 6:30 pm

For May, we plan on showing Day of the Jackal (1973). The film will be in English, but we will show French subtitles. Although the film is American, it does a superb job in showing a fictional story based in a tense period in French history when Charles DeGaulle’s life was in real danger from ultranationalist extremists. This is a film version of a breakthrough mystery by Frederic Forsyth where we know the conclusion, but we don’t know how the plot will take us there. The producers received rare permission to film behind the scenes at a Bastille Day celebration, and to film inside the Ministry of the Interior for meeting scenes. Strother Purdy will introduce the film in English, and Anne Quinson-Franklin will introduce the film in French.

Snacks will be provided, BYOB.
