The Alliance Française “Cocktail de Rentrée” was celebrated on Friday evening, September 22nd at the lovely home of John Lamb and Lawrence Tuchman. Appetizers, prepared by the Board Members, and drinks concocted by John were enjoyed by all.
The new Board for the 2017-18 season were introduced by the new President Nancy Marie-Odile Callahan. Attending were Evelyne Purdy, Vice President; Gurmit Batra, Treasurer; Micheline Baker, Secretary; Gail Gros, Program Director; Laurent Vernillet, Membership Director; John Lamb, Legal Counsel. Those unable to attend were Joanne Hutchings, Language School Director; and Ingrid Klein, Webmaster.
Special guest Mary Gail Smith, former member of the Alliance, was introduced as the President of the Alliance in Newport, RI. Her chapter’s endeavor this year is the restoration of the Rochambeau statue in Newport Harbor.
Also, news of the sudden loss of the husband of Brigitte Bentley, teacher in our school, was announced.
After a delightful dinner, prepared by John and Lawrence, Marda and Jean-Marie were thanked and praised for bringing the organization into the 21st century with the state-of-the-art website. Jean- Marie was acknowledged for the extraordinary Pétanque league he organized. Gifts were given as a token of their hard work and dedication to the Alliance.
A wonderful time was had by all!
